JAMES GORDON WORKSHOP produced and designed the re-opening night of the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto which showcased their recent $60 million renovation.

Innovative supplied an audio system throughout the room for speeches, background music, and performances.

Lighting consisted of Mac 700 profiles, Mac TW1 wash lights, Mac 250 Entours, StageBar LED’s and a handful of conventional fixtures. Custom shelves were made so that the moving lights could sit discretely on top of existing wooden structures in the room enabling them to blend in with the look of the venue, making them seem like they were a permanent fixture in the space. The star of the lighting show was the 170 existing colour changing LED lights perched outside each hotel suit which we controlled wirelessly. Innovative‘s lighting guru Alex Grierson painstakingly addressed and mapped all of the fixtures the night before, once all of the guests had retired for the night. The result was nothing short of amazing. The programming enabled the entire hotel foyer, with its 35m height, to change colour in patterns in time with the music for the performances along with displaying a great feature for guests to look at during the event.

The Vision brief was to display spectacular images taken of the hotel in a spectacular manner. To achieve this we installed a 7m high screen in the 35m high ceiling and found the largest high definition projector in the country to project the images. The projector was positioned some 50m away out of guests’ sight  which added to the breathtaking images.

The event ran seamlessly and certainly impressed the guests and client. James Gordon Workshop ran a great show and it was a pleasurable event to work on.
